Our volunteer Ina Prinsen-Pieneman received a royal decoration this morning. Ina (79) has been a volunteer of the Soviet Military Cemetery Foundation ever since its inception. She and her husband Bert have frequently acted as host family for next of kin of Soviet soldiers, furthermore she dispatches books about the Military Cemetery and assists among others in the placing of flowers.
From 1993 she has also worked as secretary, treasurer and volunteer for the ecumenical food group The Apple Core in Randenbroek-Schuilenburg as well as preparing meals for the elderly. She has also been closely involved with the Protestant Church of Amersfoort. For the Debt Relief Buddy Amersfoort Foundation she has been active as a volunteer since 2011, offering guidance to people with financial problems. Ina has been made a member of the Order of Oranje-Nassau.
This is the third time that a royal honour has been bestowed for (among other things) voluntary activities on behalf of the Soviet Military Foundation. Earlier Harm Heimensen, who with his wife Bouwien frequently acted as host family for relatives of Soviet soldiers, received a decoration. Remco Reiding was knighted in 2014 for his efforts over many years for the Military Cemetery.
