The Soviet War Cemetery Foundation is conducting a tour of the Soviet War Cemetery, next to the Rusthof cemetery (Dodeweg 31 in Leusden), on Sunday 10 November at 11.30 am. 865 war victims from the former Soviet Union lie buried here.
The tour will be led by researcher/journalist Remco Reiding, who identified hundreds of soldiers and traced the relatives of more than two hundred of them. Thanks to these efforts, the Soviet War Cemetery (formerly named Russian War Cemetery) has become more known in recent years.
Reiding will explain how the war victims ended up here, what they experienced, how the tracing of relatives went and how the war had an impact on the families. He also will pay extra attention to a number of special gravestones. In conclusion, a visit will be made to the Dutch and Allied graves at Rusthof cemetery.
The tour lasts more than an hour and costs 5 euros per person (free of charge for donors, Friends of the vfonds and volunteers of Kamp Amersfoort). Registration is required via firstname.lastname@example.org.
