The film and Virtual Reality experience of the Soviet War Cemetery Experience (SEE) have been nominated for a Golden Heron. This prestigious award is presented to the best Dutch commissioned film of the past year.
The makers of the films in the Soviet War Cemetery Experience have been nominated in the Creation category. The professional jury assesses, among other things, the clarity of the story, the substantiation by research, and the extent to which the style is innovative or surprising. The winners will be announced at Beeld en Geluid on March 12, 2026.
Remco Reiding, director of the museum in Leusden, is very pleased with the nomination. “The fact that our museum’s film and VR experience have been nominated in this specific category underscores the meticulous way in which the story behind the Soviet War Cemetery has been translated into an immersive public experience.”
The film and VR experience were realized in collaboration with Wennekes’ Office for Imagination from Leusden, Motion Supply from Barneveld, and Moodfactory from Amsterdam. “A golden team,” says Reiding. “Thanks in part to their combined expertise in storytelling, film production, and immersive media, we now have such a beautiful museum.”
In 2025, the Soviet War Cemetery Experience was already nominated for the prestigious Heritage in Motion Award from the European Museum Academy. The production was recognized as an innovative example of how heritage stories can be told digitally and accessibly. The stories of the 865 war dead buried at the War Cemetery in Leusden had previously remained unknown for decades.
