Marius van Zeijts is the new chairman of the Soviet War Cemetery Foundation. Retired Brigadier General Van Zeijts worked for the Ministry of Defence in various positions at home and abroad. He was chairman of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB) and vice-president of the European swimming federation LEN.
Van Zeijts is currently treasurer of the Mineke Foundation, a foundation that runs a school and women’s club in Liberia, and chairman of Swim to Fight Cancer Amersfoort. Previously, he was chairman of swimming club AZ&PC in Amersfoort and a commissioner at the sports and real estate organization SRO.
In addition to the former general, Rob Huzink and René Cuperus are also joining the board of the Soviet War Cemetery Foundation. Huzink is a notary and tax lawyer at Accordo Ondernemend Notariaat in Amersfoort. He was a director of the Royal Dutch Notarial Association. Cuperus is affiliated with the Clingendael Institute as a researcher and is a member of the Advisory Council on International Affairs to the Government and the House of Representatives. He was previously a board member of the National Monument Camp Amersfoort.
The Foundation bid farewell to Chairman Rogier Rijkers and board members Nadia van der Meer, Jerke Verschoor, and Coen Wilders, whose terms of office expired. Ruud van Heel, who has worked as CFO at various large international companies in Russia, Ukraine, and Georgia, will serve another term as treasurer.
The Soviet War Cemetery Foundation, dedicated to keeping the memory of war victims alive, has undergone rapid development over the past three years. The opening of the Soviet War Cemetery Experience in March 2025 marked the culmination of this. The museum was recently nominated as one of the most innovative museums in the world. For the coming years, the focus is on further expanding this position.
