Meet Vladimir and Dmitri Botenko

Recently we were in Georgia for the introductory film and the VR film for our museum. A look behind the scenes. Part 2: Meet Vladimir and Dmitri Botenko.

In the garden with apple trees, little Dmitri hits a big pan with a branch. The women who are picking apples watch the playing boy with amusement. Now that the men are fighting at the front, the women are on their own during the harvest.

Dmitri’s father, Vladimir, has also been drafted into the war. He doesn’t know if his dad will ever return.

The boy who plays Dmitri is actually called Matej. He is hired as an actor and his father keeps a close eye on the scenes that his son has to play. Georgi, the actor who plays Vladimir, is talking further away. His work is done, because Vladimir has already left for the front, so he is no longer in the picture.

In the introductory film in our museum, we follow the boy Dmitri Botenko. In the Virtual Reality experience, you as a visitor step into the shoes of private Vladimir. In a lifelike environment, you experience what happened to him as a soldier. The 360-degree recordings make it feel like you are there yourself in the trench, on the train, in a mine and in a hospital. Ultimately, you – just like son Dmitri – find out what happened to father Vladimir.

We are fortunate with Matej and Georgi as actors, as soon becomes apparent. They really look like father and son. Just look at the photo we took of the two of them. On the left of the photo you see Georgi, who plays father Vladimir. And on the right Matej, who plays the boy Dmitri – the soldier’s son.

What do you think of ‘Vladimir’ and ‘Dmitri’?
