Light a candle with us on Christmas Eve!

On Tuesday 24 December we need you. Because then we will, according to tradition, light more than 1300 candles for all Dutch and foreign war victims who lie buried at the Soviet War Cemetery and the adjacent Rusthof cemetery.

And of course all those candles have to be lit, a special experience for young and old! Because especially around the holidays it feels good to be able to do something small for someone else – a symbolic gesture of warmth and concern for an unknown war victim, often buried thousands of kilometers from home and family.

Amidst all those flickering lights, we pause for a moment to consider the long-term suffering that wars cause. Because with the current situation in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, among other places, conflicts with many casualties are also the bitter reality today.

Do you want to be part of this beautiful tradition, alone or with family and friends? Then register via bijeenkomsten@sovjet-ereveld.nl. Mention your name, the number of people and whether you also want to help clear away the candles.

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to warm up together with coffee, tea or hot chocolate on the forecourt of Rusthof.

We look forward to seeing you! (It is going to be busy, come by bike if possible!)
